The phrase “Praise the Lord”, written as two words, appears 23 times in the Old Testament and only in the Book of Psalms (Psalms 104 thru 150). 23 is significant because the number 37 is found in 23 out of 127 different combinations in Genesis 1:1 where the words can be arranged to get their total numerical values (see chart). Praise “הללו” has a numerical value of 71 and Lord “יה” (written in its shortened form) has a numerical value of 15. Together they total 86 which in the numerical value for אלהים (elohim) translated as “God.” There is one other place where “Praise the Lord” is found in Psalms 106:1, but for some reason it is written as one word “‎הללויה” and not two words “‎הללו יה.” The numerical value is still 86. It is interesting to note that in the above chart, when you add up all of the chapter numbers together, the total value is divisible by 37. You can also take the chapter numbers starting with the highest (150), and subtract the lowest number (104) to get 46. This just happens to be the total number of words in all 23 verses for ‎הללו יה translated as “Praise the Lord.”
